Snowflower has been shot in a virtual production environment using a large-scale LED wall. I created the assets and set up the Unity scene. On the day of
the shoot I supervised the production from an artistic point of view.
Snowflower emerged from an experimental production which aimed at evaluating multiple research contributions from the project partners in the EU-funded project SAUCE.
While the main focus was on character animation driven by machine learning and its control with editing tools directly on set, the real-time nature of these techniques demanded a virtual production
environment, featuring real-time camera tracking, rendering and displaying.
In the end, the resulting short film shows an ape-like creature consisting of brushwood which approaches a hut in the woods to take possession of a sunflower.
The production was executed by the research department of Animationsinstitut at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
For this animated feature film I worked on texturing, shading and lighting to a great extent.
The Ogglies arrive in Smelliville. But they are not welcome. A nasty building contractor wants to banish them.
In the big Oggly adventure movie, the Oggly children save their new home together with their friends Max and Lotta.
For this feature film I worked mainly on lighting, but also on texturing and shading.
As part of the VFX team at RISE FX I was mainly committed to replacing the replica weapons with 3D guns.
After a high-stake mission spins out of control, putting an innocent 8-year-old girl in the middle of the gang war she has unleashed, Sam has no choice but to go rogue.
This ultimately leads her back to her mother and her former hitwomen sidekicks, who all join forces in an avenging war against those who took everything from them.
For the Hadifilm company founded by two students of HFF in Munich I realized 8 minutes of animation for the annual "Besucherfilm" of the Bavarian parliament, explaining the election and public participation process. Approximately 300.000 guests visit the Maximilaneum i.e. the Bavarian government every year and the film is an inherent part of their visit.
"Proxima-b" is a short film produced at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. I supported the VFX-team with initial concepts, 3D models and some compositing.
On their way to the exoplanet Proxima-b Captain Sternberg shares her dreams with the android Phintia SX-3, unknowingly creating a powerfull rival.
Hired by Mackevision, I supported the calibration of the Ncam system at Panavision in London before attending the actual shoot at Shepperton Studios. Together with the employees of Mackevision I took care of the real-time previsualization on set by operating the Ncam system. Our composite was immediately delivered to the director and the DOP.
The research lab at Animationsinstitut of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg has initiated numerous projects dedicated to the creation of convincing human faces and their application across Animation, VFX and Interactive Media. In this latest project the team took a closer look into the potential of documentary film formats.
The selected use case investigates the convincing digital recreation of a historical character. While actors in re-enactments resemble the original only to some degree, completely digital characters can become convincing counterparts down to the smallest wrinkle. However, the project does not aim at substituting the actors,
but tries to define pipelines to conserve their unique performance, including voice and gestures to create natural looking and appealing digital actors. For this use case, Albert Einstein served as a subject of investigation.

As part of the EU funded project Dreamspace, the R&D department at Filmakademie has developed VPET, a tablet-based on-set editing application that works within a real-time virtual production environment. It is designed to run on mobile and head mounted devices and communicates through a network interface with digital content creation tools and other VPET clients.
This project was realized during my time as motion designer at Blubb-Media entirely with After Effects. The challenge was rather the understanding of the physical processes than the actual animation.
To identify magnetic fields a nitrogen atom is being integrated into a tiny diamond tip. With the help of electrons of the emerging nitrogen vacancy center even smallest magnetic fields, measuring only a few nanometers, can be detected through ESR spectroscopy.
The short film "Camdroid" has been produced in a virtual production environment, also using a novel 3D user interface, which consists of an Oculus Rift head-mounted display and a Leap Motion gesture-recognition controller, aiming at a more intuitive human-computer interaction for virtual production scenarios.
The project was supported by supervisors from both Media University Stuttgart and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, while the development of the demonstrated interface prototype as well as the related experimental production has been carried into execution in line with Project Dreamspace.
Project Dreamspace is initialized and funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union and brings together seven renowned institutions in order to research, develop and demonstrate tools that enable creative professionals to combine live performance, video and computer-generated imagery in real-time.
Once more the company Camdroid tries to revolutionize the filmmaking business with a ground-breaking product: the autonomous camera robot CamBot Mark 2. However, this leaked video reveals some dramatic deficits.
"Appic Quest" is a location-based augmented reality game for android which turns your daily life into a role-play game. Originally started as a private project of Markus Tralls, it has been advanced as a student project at Media University Stuttgart. The CG-Spot team designed and created 33 lowpoly medieval assets, including weapons and armours, for a real-time usage within the game.
"Another World" is a short film, which has been produced within the scope of a studio production at Media University Stuttgart, emphasizing on visual effects.
Live on earth is in danger. A last space mission is to save mankind from extinction. However, the three spacemen fail. On his long journey back to earth, astronaut Adam is left with the messages of his wife. As all hope seems lost, he comes to a grave decision.
The short film "Traumzeit" has been produced within the framework of a studio production at Media University Stuttgart. A team of 15 students worked for nine month on the realization of this ambitious visual effects project, focusing on CGI and compositing.
Our protagonist is fully occupied with his work in the home office. Distracted by his son Tim, he remembers his own childhood. A journey through a child's imagination is about to start - a colourful rich world, inhabited by beautiful creatures.
This short typography animation has been created for a motion graphics course at Media University Stuttgart. Additional graphics were created in Cinema4D and animated in After Affects later on.
You can find them in every horror film - scenes in which somebody does something completely stupid.
It is most obvious that this person will have to pay for this inexcusable faux pas. However, when following these 10 simple rules, you are well prepared for any kind of eventuality.
"Box" is a five-minute animated short film and has been created as part of the bachelor thesis of five digital media students at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt.
The pitiful creature Alpha lives in a small glass cube since the beginning of time. Inside the cube there is only a green and a red lamp. Being activated at irregular intervals these two lamps define the life inside the box. When the green light flashes, Alpha enjoys some food or a cooling shower, while the red light indicates that something negative is about to happen. One day the green light bulb gets broken and the disaster takes its course.
Within one semester three episodes of a web-serial have been produced. A team of five students created a commercial campaign for the fictitious company "Penta Industries", advertising more than questionable products, like an eco-friendly electric chair for home application. Despite black humor smile will certainly freeze on the spectator's face.
This project has been developed as a stereoscopic short film, exploring the fascinating question of what a person sees, when actually being blind.
"Seeing Eye" tells the story of a young blind woman, who creates a phantastic world out of auditive perceptions. The film constitutes an attempt to approach blindness with drastic symbolic images.
This project was my first fully animated short film but already comes up to a run time of almost nine minutes.
The small robot Piwo lives on a deserted earth, spending the days with small repair jobs for his fellow robots. One day he decides to put an end to his loneliness and starts an ambitious project.
